First Turkish Disabled Golf Open

Istanbul, 12-16 April - It was the first Turkish Disabled Golf Open tournament, but the Turkish Golf Federation and the Klassis Golf & Country Club in Istanbul, organized a high standard event. Both, on and off the golf course, it was a pleasure but tough to compete for all players. The friendly and very helpful staff at the Klassis Golf Shop and the service rendered at the Half Way House, but also referees, greenkeepers and volunteers, all contributed to this fantastic experience.

From the first drive until the last putt it became a real challenge. Being back on the terrace, in the restaurant or using the hotel facilities, players and companions were always in good hands! Thank you Turkey! We may be back in 2012 already, in Belek, Antalya, to be precise, where from 26-29 September (women) and from 4-7 October (Men) the IGF World Amateur Team Championships are played. In consultation with Mr. Ahmet A?ao?lu, President of the Turkish Golf Federation and Vice-President of the Turkish National Paralympic Committee and Mr. Yavuz Kocaömer, President of the Turkish National Paralympic Committee, the unique possibility was discussed to prolong these World Championships with a few more days to enable disabled golfers to play their World Championship at the same location(s). This idea was very well received, with the proviso, however, that Golf is included in the 2016 Paralympic Sports Programme. EDGA is having the lead in the IPC Application Process; the final decision of the International Paralympic Committee will be taken in November 2010.
