EDGA TOURNAMENT SERIES

Early in the 2015 season, we committed to developing an online tournament entry system with the object of simplifying the process for both player and organisers. We are delighted to announce that the first version of the online entry form is now fully operational and currently being used for The EDGA Algarve Open which is taking place on 19-20 November and is supported by The Algarve Tourist Association. The next stage of the development will be to fully integrate this with the existing player database and also provide a fastrack to the classifications process for non EDGA pass holders.

When completed, we intend to offer the benefits of this system to the organisers of all EDGA Badged tournaments by making the complete system available for their use.

IGF impressed by the work of EDGA

A statement received from the IGF reads well for EDGA as it recognises the work of the Association.

"The International Golf Federation has been fully informed of the progressive steps that the European Disabled Golf Association have been taking. We are very impressed with the work that is being done to engage the recognised National Governing Bodies and to broaden the opportunities for golfers with disability. The IGF has been consulted on the development of EDGAs strategy, and are comfortable with the actions being taken to bring all bodies representing golf for the disabled together, and know that over time this will benefit the whole of the game”.

We are very pleased to announce that The Czech Golf Federation has joined EDGA. Miroslav Lidinsky and Jana Brabnikova have been working away behind the scenes to encourage the Federation to take on the responsibility for golfers with disability. EDGA President Tony Bennett commented that “It is fantastic that the Czech Golf Federation has taken this step. We are now just one country short of achieving our objective to have a membership made up of the National Governing Bodies in each country. This will help us in our wider objectives to bring the game to more individuals with impairment, to link more closely to golf's ruling bodies and eventually to reach the Paralympics”.

EDGA is proud to be a part of the European Week of Sport and will take a part in a demonstration of golf on the 09.09.2015 at the square in Brussels. The demonstration team will represent EDGA at the Flagship event on the Social Inclusion Focus Day. "The opportunity for EDGA to be part of the European Week of Sport is obviously very good for all golfers with disability", said an EDGA spokesperson, who went on to say, "We are limited to the number of athletes that we can take to the event and so it is not possible to have all disabilities represented, but we are happy to include links to all credible disability groups in the handout materials. We would like to gather this information as soon as possible so that we can make sure that we make a good impression on the politicians, lobbyists and others who will be sure to be present at the event".

EDGA are keen to work with organisations who would like to hold an event during the same week 7-11 September which focuses on golfers with disability.
