From "Supergirl" to super songwriter: Melissa Benoist stars as Carole King in Broadway's "Beautiful"

Joan Marcus(NEW YORK) -- Supergirl star Melissa Benoist is making her Broadway debut in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, playing Carole King, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer behind hits like "So Far Away," "It's Too Late" and "You've Got a Friend."  While she's done musical theater in the past and sang every week as one of the stars of Glee, Benoist didn't expect to be on Broadway at this point in her career.

"It sort of just fell together," she tells ABC Radio. "I had a break from Supergirl and I wasn't planning on doing anything...I kinda wanted to relax...and this came about. I had always been a big fan of Carole, so it sorta just felt like I wouldn't forgive myself if I hadn't take the opportunity."

Though just 29, Benoist is a fan of King's music. "It was played around my house," she says. "Both my parents were fans...it always reminds me of my mom.  And the emotion, too, is something I've always connected to."

Benoist continues: "What I think is the most surprising about [King] is this sort of duality she holds.  She is a 'square,' and very reserved, and not your typical rock and roll writer...[but] she has this inner strength and confidence -- she can command a room of 20 musicians, and she did it when she was 16!"

Melissa also hopes her Broadway stint will inspire Supergirl fans.

"So far, I've seen a few little girls in Supergirl capes [at the show] and it's really nice, because theater was so important to me growing up," she says. "I hope if there are some Supergirl fans who haven't seen live theater or Broadway, maybe they['ll] fall in love with it now."

Benoist will star in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical through August 4.

Scott Baio and Nicole Eggert react to LA County District Attorney decision to decline sexual assault charges

Photo by Hollywood To You/Star Max/GC Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Scott Baio and his former Charles in Charge co-star Nicole Eggert have both weighed in after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office rejected her sexual molestation claims against him.

The L.A. County D.A. ruled on Tuesday that the statute of limitations had expired on any allegations made that may have been actionable.

Eggert, now 46, filed a police report in February, alleging that Baio "sexually assaulted her in various ways between the ages of 14 and 17," while she was working with him on the 1980s sitcom.

In a statement released via his spokesperson on Wednesday, Baio, 57, claims Eggert “dedicated herself to destroying my reputation and harming my family, and she has failed.”

Baio further insists that Eggert’s “false” charges “were conceived in advance for personal gain,” adding, “We also presented multiple witness statements who knew Eggert well at the time the show was made, and presented an entirely different portrait of her behavior and motivations for her false charges against me."

“Unlike Nicole Eggert, most claims of sexual assault and harassment are honest, and my heart goes out to those who have been harmed,” he continues. “As bad as Nicole Eggert’s actions against me were, she has hurt them even more if they are doubted for even one moment because of her untrue allegations...I will do my best to support them.”

Earlier, Eggert’s attorney, Lisa Bloom, issued a statement in response to the L.A. County D.A.’s decision stating, “I am proud to represent Nicole Eggert as she has spoken out and inspired others. We have been told that while the DA found Nicole and her witnesses to be credible, they could not prosecute due to the statute of limitations.”

Bloom also suggested the statute of limitations be abolished for child sexual abuse.

"SNL" star Pete Davidson confirms engagement to Ariana Grande: it's "like I won a contest"

Kailey Fellows/NBC(NEW YORK) -- Pete Davidson was Jimmy Fallon's guest on Wednesday's The Tonight Show, where he confirmed his engagement to Ariana Grande publicly for the first time.

"You know you didn't have to get engaged to Ariana Grande to come on our show," Fallon began, to which Davidson replied, "But I did!"

"I feel like I won a contest," the Saturday Night Live star, told Fallon. "It's so sick. It's f****** lit, Jimmy."

Davidson, seated next to Fallon's other guest, Robert Pattinson, went on to say that random people are stopping him on the street to offer their congratulations.

"Some dude came up to me and was like, ‘Yo man, you gave me hope,'" he added.

Davidson didn't reveal a wedding date, but when it does happen, the couple has an invitation to hold it on The Tonight Show stage.

As for Grande, a source tells E! Online that the 24-year-old "No Tears Left to Cry" singer was watching from the side of the stage and "had a huge smile on her face the entire time and was constantly clapping."

"black-ish" creator Kenya Barris and Pharrell Williams developing "Juneteenth" musical

ABC/Bob D'Amico(LOS ANGELES) -- Pharrell Williams and black-ish creator Kenya Barris are developing a stage musical based on the Juneteenth African-American holiday, which celebrates the final day of slavery in the U.S.: June 19, 1865.

“I dream about projects like this," Pharrell said, according to Deadline.com. “Juneteenth will change culture and change history. We couldn’t sign up fast enough.

Barris will write the dialogue with Peter Saji, with whom he's worked on black-ish. Pharrell will compose and produce the music.

“The acknowledgement and celebration of Juneteenth as an American and possibly international holiday is something that I would put in the life goals column for me,” Barris said. “For Peter and me to be able to team up with Pharrell on such an important project like this is something that neither of us in a billion years would have thought possible."

Last year, a black-ish episode titled "Juneteenth" imagined the Johnson family celebrating the holiday in 1865.

"For us, this project isn’t about numbers; it’s about humanity,” Barris added. “Slavery is America’s recessive gene and it’s time we all dealt with it and what better way to have an audience swallow this dose of medicine than with amazing music and raw, honest, jaw-dropping comedy?”

Pharrell and Barris haven't yet revealed when they plan to debut the musical.

Kevin Costner says "Yellowstone's" Montana setting is like "the Garden of Eden"

Paramount Network(NEW YORK) -- Kevin Costner is no stranger to Westerns, starring in films like Dances with Wolves and Silverado. Now, he’s taking on the modern-day Western in the new Paramount Network series, Yellowstone.

Costner plays John Dutton, a fifth-generation rancher defending his sprawling Montana property from land developers while dealing with dysfunctional relationships with his four adult children.  He tells ABC Radio this project “stands alone” from the other Westerns he’s done, thanks to the writing by Taylor Sheridan, who also directed the series’ 10 episodes, and its authentic Montana setting.

“We're shooting in a place called the Bitter Root Valley, which is where Lewis and Clark went through, so you realize so much history and so much beauty,” Costner says. “I kinda think of it as the Garden of Eden.”

He adds, “For me, it just stood alone in terms of its writing. Where it's being shot is just kind of like the icing on the cake.”

As beautiful as the landscape may be, Dutton has to come to terms with the fact that not all his children may want a future on the ranch.

“The generations that have come before, they never thought that there was anything in front of them other than the ranch,” Costner says. “But [Dutton’s] children see how big the world is and being stuck on a ranch -- no matter how beautiful [he] think[s] it is -- is maybe not necessarily what they want.”

Yellowstone premieres tonight at 9 p.m. ET on the Paramount Network.

George and Amal Clooney donate $100,000 to support immigrant children

Photo by Clemens Bilan/Getty ImagesOnce again, George and Amal Clooney are supporting an emerging cause with cash.  The celebrity couple just announced they're donating $100,000 to help immigrant children in the U.S.

The donation was made to The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights, the website for which declares their mission is to "promote the best interests of unaccompanied immigrant children with due regard to the child’s expressed wishes, according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and state and federal law."

The donation comes via the Clooney Foundation for Justice, founded two years ago by the Clooneys to support causes they determine are worthwhile.  It's in response to the ongoing Trump administration policy of separating the children of illegal immigrants to the U.S. from their families and detaining them indefinitely.

In a statement about the donation, the Clooneys say: “At some point in the future our children will ask us: ‘Is it true, did our country really take babies from their parents and put them in detention centers?’  And when we answer yes, they’ll ask us what we did about it. What we said. Where we stood. We can’t change this administration’s policy but we can help defend the victims of it.”

This isn't the first time this year the Clooneys have made a sizeable donation to a cause they deemed important.  A week after last February's mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, the Clooneys announced they were donating $500,000 to support the survivors' then-planned March for Our Lives anti-gun demonstration.

Report: Khloé Kardashian back in LA; family forgives Tristan Thompson

Jerritt Clark/Getty Images for Remy Martin(LOS ANGELES) -- Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson returned to Los Angeles over the weekend to continue working on their relationship -- with the full support of her family and friends, a source tells Entertainment Tonight.

“[Tristan] has a home in L.A. too, but the plan is to live together as a family at Khloé’s home as they continue to work on their relationship,” says the insider. “Everyone is back on board -- friends, family and Khloé have all forgiven him and are giving him this second chance -- and so far it’s been working for them.”

The 27-year-old Cleveland Caveliers basketball player allegedly cheated on the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star multiple times while she was pregnant. Khloé, 33, had been living in Cleveland since giving birth to their daughter, True, in April.

The source adds that Khloé thinks her decision to stay in Cleveland, rather than rushing back to L.A. after the cheating scandal, was an important step in rebuilding their relationship.

“Her family was obviously very concerned when the scandal broke and they wanted her to come home, [but] she decided to stay and is so happy she did,” according to source. "She loved her time in Cleveland and believes it was essential to their relationship to be together as a family unit during that time. Those are important months as a parent and she is grateful they experienced that as a team.”

On Tuesday, the couple was photographed at a McDonald's drive-thru. A day earlier, they hung out with Khloé's sister, Kendall Jenner, and mother Kris Jenner's boyfriend, Corey Gamble.

Kardashian shared a photo on Instagram of a teddy bear and balloons that read, "Welcome home Khloé and True," courtesy of her sister Kylie Jenner.

MGM/Warner Bros. Pictures(HOLLYWOOD) -- It's all about family drama, and a new surprise opponent, in the just-released trailer for Creed 2.

Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan reprise their roles as Rocky Balboa and Adonis Johnson, respectively, with Adonis apparently taking a hard hit in the ring that puts him in the hospital and has his family concerned for his future if he fights again.

And there's a new contender Johnson's itching to fight -- Vitor Drago, the son of the brutal Russian fighter Ivan Drago, the character played by Dolph Lundgren in 1985's Rocky IV.

"Listen to me, this guy is dangerous," Rocky tells Adonis.

"You don't think I can beat him," Adonis replies.  But something tells us Adonis just might win.

Lundgren returns for Creed 2, with Florian Munteanu playing his son.  Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad are also back for the sequel, which opens November 21.

"Modern Family" co-creator Steve Levitan announces, then walks back intention to leave Fox over immigration news coverage

ABC Image Group/LA(LOS ANGELES) -- After announcing his intention to leave Fox over its news division’s support of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan has revised his position.

“I have great respect and admiration for Dana Walden, Gary Newman, Peter Rice, and everyone at 20th Century Fox Studios who have all treated me so well for almost 2 decades,” Levitan said in a statement provided by his agent, UTA’s Jay Sures, obtained by Variety. “For now, I will take some time to see where those people land, and at that point, make a decision about my future.”

Earlier, Levitan had tweeted, "Fox Studio has been a wonderful home for most of my career - so many amazing people there who share the concerns about @FoxNews but aren’t in the position to speak out.

"I have no problem with fact-based conservatism (such as WSJ), but @FoxNew’s 23-hour-a-day support of the NRA, conspiracy theories and Trump’s lies gets harder to swallow every day as I drive onto that lot to make a show about inclusion," he continued.

Levitan concluded the series of tweets by writing, "I look forward to seeing #ModernFamily through to the end and then, sale or no sale, setting up shop elsewhere."

Levitan's overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television is set to expire in 2019.

The studio's future is currently up in the air, as the Walt Disney Company and Comcast compete to acquire the bulk of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment businesses. Fox News is not included in the sale.

Disney is the parent company of ABC News.

Kevin Costner remembers his late co-star Whitney Houston

ABC/Lou Rocco(NEW YORK) -- Academy Award winner Kevin Costner stopped by Good Morning America on Tuesday to dish on his new show, Yellowstone, while also celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard -- the hit movie in which he co-starred with the late Whitney Houston.

Costner opened up about why The Bodyguard still resonates with fans today.

"We want that level of security -- who cares for us, who loves us, who would stand in front of us, who would stand for us, but the reality is, we have this little songbird, Whitney, who had this big voice that came out of her and it was her first movie ... she was so beautiful and I thought, 'Well, this is the girl for me,'" he said.

Costner played former secret service agent Frank Farmer in the 1992 film.

"It was a really important moment in her life and her career and we'll always be locked together that way," Costner added.

Costner will also be appearing in a documentary on the late star titled, Whitney

"There's something about Whitney for the worldwide fame that she had...there were times when she didn't think she was pretty enough, she didn't think she was good enough and the rest of us are going, 'Really? Whitney, you have it,'" Costner recalled. "I'm always really careful the things I do say about her simply because sometimes, things are just yours."

Meanwhile, in the series Yellowstone, Costner plays John Dutton, whose family controls the largest ranch in the United States.

"I never start anything that I don't think has a chance to be great and Yellowstone was all of that and so I hope you do check it out," Costner said of the western.

Yellowstone premieres Wednesday on Paramount Network.

Mara Brock Akil and the "Love Is ____" cast share their "brave" journey in bringing the romantic drama to life

Photo by Michael Desmond © 2018 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. / Courtesy of OWN(MIAMI BEACH) -- Tonight, OWN will premiere Love Is ____, the scripted relationship drama from Mara Brock Akil and her husband/producing partner, Salim Akil. The series, inspired by the couple's real-life relationship journey, follows Michele Weaver as Nuri and Will Catlett as Yasir and how the two unexpectedly fell in love while pursuing their careers.

"It definitely was one of those things where I'm glad the way that I came in I didn't over research her," Weaver tells ABC Radio, referring to series creator Mara Brock Akil. "I really was more of like, "OK, what's on the page? Let me just go in and be live." And I'm glad that I did that because I feel like if I came in and was trying to impersonate someone... it would have lost the authenticity."

For Catlett, it was a bit more challenging to become Mara's husband, Salim.  "That was my biggest struggle," he says. "Because Salim and I... we're a lot alike. And then, at the same time, Mara has her mirror that she sees too. So at some point I just had to surrender."

Like Catlett, Mara Brock Akil says she also yielded to the process and opened up when it came to her character. In fact, she says the series, among other things, taught her just how "brave" she was in creating the character Nuri, as well as the importance of love.

"Love is ___ is our offering to talk about how to keep love, not only in our romantic lives, but... our love to our dreams, our love to our co-workers, our love to our family members, our love to our friends," Mara Brock Akil says. "[I]t's time to put that back out into the world."

Love Is ____ premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.
