Endurant automated transmission: A league of its own
Some 42 months before the new Endurant automated transmission's launch, the program engineers locked themselves in an abandoned warehouse to start completely from scratch. WABCO introduces new safety technologies
Plans to show off new blind spot detection system and electronic brake interlock at American Trucking Associations annual meeting next week.
Commercial vehicle component supplier WABCO is bringing two new safety systems to market that can be ordered for new trucks and trailers as well as retrofitted to existing equipment.
The first is OnSide, a radar-based blind spot detection system for commercial trucks and trailers – a system WABCO said provides a 160-degree field of view and coverage for up to 65% of a standard 53-foot trailer.

QuikQ introduces new fuel payment card and programs
New fuel card and merchant’s agreements with three truck stop chains add to its offerings.
QuikQ LLC is adding to its full-service fuel payment offerings, adding a fuel card and merchant agreements with truck stop chains Love’s Travel Stops, TravelCenters of America, and Pilot Flying J.
Those new merchant agreements, combined similar deals previously hammered out with independent truck stops, give QuikQ a nationwide footprint for its fuel card program, the company said.

Chevin Fleet Solutions, a global provider of fleet management software, just launched the first phase of its new user interface development for its flagship FleetWave product.
FleetWave is used to simplify fleet, driver and maintenance management – from the financial overview of vehicles and equipment to policy and supervision of drivers, technicians, and shops.

New CV report from Wards
The report examines statistics on trucks in service today and breaks out the data across various operating categories.
Sources for truck and trailer sales are plentiful, but an accurate accounting of utilization by fleet size and location, by gross vehicle weight class, by age and by brand had never existed, until a just-released report erased this information gap.

Yokohama Tire Corporation (YTC) has promoted Andrew Briggs to the newly created position of vice president of marketing & product management.
Briggs, who will report to Jeff Barna, YTC’s COO, replaces Fred Koplin, senior director of marketing and motorsports, who retired.

Ford recalls F-150, Super Duty trucks for possible door problem
Ford Motor Co. issued a safety recall for certain 2015-17 F-150 and 2017 Ford Super Duty vehicles sold in North America, and some 1.3 million of the trucks are affected. The problem is that a frozen door latch or a "bent or kinked" actuation cable could result in a door that won't open or close.

Biketoberfest limits trucks to fuel-and-go
Thousands of motorcyclists are converging on the Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach area this weekend, Oct. 19-22, for Biketoberfest. So Love's truck stop in the area is limiting truck access.
Daytona Harley Davidson (DHD), next door to Love’s Travel Stop in Ormond Beach, is a major participant of the annual motorcycle event and rally. DHD’s involvement causes unusually high traffic volume in and around the area, and Love’s can only allow trucks to fuel-and-go.

Motiv to power all-electric L.A. garbage trucks
Zero-emission trucks to have enough power for a full day of residential garbage and recycling routes.
Coming off a recent announcement on California’s first all-electric refuse vehicle (ERV) heading to Sacramento, Motiv Power Systems’ is deploying two zero-emission refuse trucks to the City of Los Angeles.
As a continuation of a demonstration project funded by the California Energy Commission, these Class-8 ERVs use the Motiv All-Electric Powertrain to drive a Crane Carrier chassis, with an automated side-loader body built by Amrep.

Here’s a fun thought for the day: with all the advances being made in remote diagnostics and maintenance algorithms for trucks, cars, bulldozers, and other motorized equipment, it’s becoming increasingly likely that machines are going to be receiving far better “preventative care” than us humans in the very near future.

Ozark offers new driver pay package
Family-owned carrier increases both cents per mile and accessorial pay for its linehaul, team, and regional drivers.
Ozark Motor Lines, Inc., a family-owned ground transportation services company based in Memphis, TN, is putting a new pay package in place for its drivers; increasing both cents per mile and accessorial pay.
Starting rates for linehaul drivers under the new pay package are 41 cents per mile for drivers with less than a year of experience all the way up to 46 cents per mile for drivers with five or more years of experience, with pay now topping out at 48 cents per mile.
