Gov. Ivey awards grant to support traffic safety prosecutions
[Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs] Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $171,075 grant to ensure that law enforcement and prosecutors are familiar with existing and new laws involving traffic safety. The state Office of Prosecution Services will use funds to keep district attorneys and law enforcement officers abreast of changes and updates in traffic safety codes which could impact sentences for dangerous drivers.

Gov. Ivey awards grants to improve highway safety in north Alabama
[Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs] Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded grants totaling $791,838 to increase patrols and other highway safety measures in north Alabama during Labor Day weekend and other major traveling holidays during the next year. Funds will be used by law enforcement agencies in 17 counties that serve in the state’s North Alabama Highway Safety Office district. The allocation will cover overtime and other special expenses incurred during major highway campaigns and safety promotions including “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and during busy travel periods.

Kay Ivey announced. The grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission will support the Alabama Launchpad, a program directed by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama Foundation. The program offers entrepreneurs an opportunity through a competitive process to be awarded money to develop their business. This grant is directed at the Launchpad program in the counties of Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall and Morgan.

Two fox bites reported in Robertsdale City Limits
[Public Health, Alabama Department of] Two additional persons have been bitten by foxes in Baldwin County, prompting concern about rabies. On July 6, a fox attacked a young teen at a Robertsdale park and attacked her dog before running off. The next day a fox attacked a disabled man as he sat in his wheelchair outside his apartment’s front door. Both individuals have begun post-exposure treatment at a local hospital.

[Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs] A $524,660 grant awarded by Gov. Kay Ivey will take health care to a new level in southwest Alabama while providing new jobs. The Community Development Block Grant, awarded to the city of Thomasville, will provide infrastructure necessary for a new hospital. The Thomasville Regional Medical Center, already under construction, will be a 29-bed facility that will serve people in northern Clarke County and several surrounding counties. It will employ 65 people and will involve a wide range of jobs from medical professionals to food service workers.

[Alabama State Council on the Arts] Montgomery, Ala. – At its June quarterly meeting in Montgomery, the Alabama State Council on the Arts (ASCA) awarded sixteen (16) fellowship grants including one arts administration fellowship totaling $80,000, and seven (7) Arts and Cultural Facilities grants totaling $163,000 for a grand total of $243,000. Fellowships are awarded to individual artists and recognize artistic excellence, professional commitment and maturity and contribute to the further development of the artist and the advancement of his or her professional career. Arts and cultural facilities grants are awarded for planning, design or construction of an arts space. All projects must involve top professionals with demonstrated expertise in urban and/or community-planning, architecture, landscape design or historic preservation. This round of grants will support activity taking place between October 1, 2018 and September 30, 2019.

Kay Ivey, is expected to improve radio communications among police and other emergency service agencies in the state’s Wiregrass area in addition to campus police at all Troy University locations in south-central Alabama. The grant will enable the City of Troy Police Department to purchase and become one of the first regional networks for the digital conversion to the Project 25 or P25 digital radio system. Once components are installed by Troy and Troy University police, which are assisting each other in the venture, the system will be available to other law enforcement agencies in Pike, Dale and possibly other south Alabama counties.

[Human Resources, Department of] Pursuant to the Alabama Youth Residential Facility Abuse Prevention Act #2017-374 (Attachment A), the Alabama Department of Human Resources, shall register any religious, faith-based, or church nonprofit, other nonprofit, or for profit affiliated youth residential facility, youth social rehabilitation facility, community treatment facility for youths, youth transitional care facility, long term youth residential facility, private alternative boarding school, private alternative outdoor program, and any organization entrusted with the residential care of children in any organizational form or combination, whenever children are housed at the facility or location of the program for a period of more than 24 hours.

Gov. Ivey awards grant to help development and create jobs in Cullman County
[Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs] Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $120,000 grant to spur commerce and help create jobs in Cullman County. The Community Development Block Grant funds will provide infrastructure needed for the construction of a combination convenience store, gas station and fast-food restaurant in the town of West Point. Dale’s Market, which will include a Subway sandwich shop, will employ 20 people when the complex is built off Alabama Highway 157.
