Curbar Edge
A walk shared with families, climbers and wandering sheep all making the most of a summer’s day was the inspiration for this large mixed media painting, looking down on Curbar village in the Derbyshire Dales. To the east of the village is a gritstone escarpment, shown here, known as Curbar Edge. There are superb views [...]

Sheffield Open Studios 2010
These pics are from Sheffield’s Open Studios weekend, in which all those doing some form of art can participate. Sheffield Salsa
This is Leopold Square in Sheffield city centre on Bank Holiday Sunday, poised to host what turned out to be a wonderful warm evening of listening and dancing to great live music provided by the Mojito salsa band . How amazing this was happening in Sheffield. The city is certainly aiming high and coming alive.

A Trip to Saltaire
Had a most enjoyable trip to Saltaire, a Victorian ‘model’  industrial village, built by philanthropist Sir Titus Salt. The woollen mill itself was constructed on a very large and grand scale, along with amazing houses for the folk who worked in the mill, plus shops, waterways, a church, and much more. The housing stands well against today’s (as [...]

Staithes Stories
I spent a sunny May bank holiday in Staithes, Yorkshire, once one of the largest fishing ports in the north east.  Wonderful moments walking through the old town with its jumble of buildings and colour and rich sense of stories to tell. Staithes was for a time the home of Captain James Cook and the [...]

Painting at Pear Tree Farm
A successful two-day mixed-media course at Pear Tree Farm Arts Centre, pleasantly situated at Lea Bridge, overlooking Lea Brook, in the Derwent valley near Matlock. Always good to work with a group of enthusiastic participants who are prepared to try new ideas (interrupted only by a delicious lunches served up by Sue and Alan).
